Not everyone can reach the age 21. Many people I personally know have passed away at a very young age. I am thankful that I have been living for 21 years now. I know this sounds a little weird because 21 is also a very young age and yet here I am, proud to have reached the age 21.
Over the years I’ve been into many things. Teenagers usually justify it with the term ‘curiosity’. I don’t think it’s bad to be curious. Many scientists discovered all of the lessons we have to study hard in Science and Math today because they were curious. In my case I was curious how to have fun, how to be genuinely happy, how to earn a lot of money and have a lot of friends although I should have been curious how to have a lot of genuine friends. Simply, I was curious at what makes my life meaningful. Like the scientists, my lab experiments became life experiences. If this doesn’t work then I’ll try another way, still doesn’t work then another way its just not that simple to really be curious about something that you ought not to surrender finding other ways just to make it work, but have I been successful in finding ways to make the experiment successful or to have a meaningful life with many genuine friends, having fun, getting more money and all the other shining things? Sorry to disappoint you but NO, I haven’t figured it out. Maybe my brain isn’t fully-developed yet at this age so I lack the mental preparedness to actually sort this thing out.
With that in mind I was curious (again), if my not fully-developed brain can’t find answers, I should ask someone twice my age because maybe their fully-developed brain have figured it out within their lifetime.
I did asked and get answers. Now, am I the only curious person here? If we’re on the same boat then you should do this too.
To make it more your way, you should also ask to any person you know that is twice my age as I often hear the line ‘life starts at 40’ I guess they really have it all figured out already since they can now live life with meaning. It could be your parents, your relatives or anyone.
Just make sure that these people you are asking are living the life that you want right now or simply put, has the authority to give you life advices because of what they have achieved or what they have been through.
I used the question, “What makes life meaningful? Does having a lot of friends, a lot of fun, a lot of money makes life meaningful too?”
I’ll let you know the answers I got when I did this, in the next blog post so before you read my next post please prepare your written answers and see if we get the same answers or otherwise.
I’m sure young people like me wants to know the answer at this age so we don’t get to have many uncomfortable life experiences and just live life the right way if there are really right ways of living it. This being written, we can live life with positive experiences and makes the most out of it.
If I was curious at what makes my life meaningful, I also thought of what makes it otherwise. I mean what makes my life depressing, disappointing and what makes it lack meaning. Why I don’t have a lot of genuine friends, a lot of fun and a lot of money. Some of these things have already happened to me but not all and hopefully this inquiry will let me skip at least some of these uncomfortable experiences. So I decided to be curious more on the answers as to what makes life not meaningful and all the other unshiny things. This time I can’t ask someone since it would be disrespectful if not rude to ask to anyone. Imagine asking the question, “What makes your life disappointing? I want to know so I won’t be like you.” I think if I did that, I’d see myself championing the 200-meter sprint. I have to find a methodology to get answers on this matter. Then I thought, if it’s offensive to ask this to anyone because they don’t like to be labeled or identified as one, is there at least some brave soul who opens his story so others can learn from it? That’s when I realized being a reader is not just passion sometimes it’s needed as a life skill. A skill to learn other people’s experiences. I then launched my ‘finding-the-right-book’ saga to get answers thru other people’s life experiences.
I did read several published books and I will tell you the answers I got in the next blog post.
If you’re curious and you’re not a reader then congratulations, I just made you think of considering to read your first book to help us get answers that we want based on real life accounts. It’s cool to be a reader. Not many cute girls and pretty boys will not be surprised to know that you read books when they see you reading. You can download ebooks at least. There are thousands of free ebooks.
When I read the book, I use the following as guide questions.
What activities have led his/her life to have such state?
Did he/she have many friends, did a lot of fun or has a lot of money?
What kind of life did he/she thought he/she have?
When did he/she realized his/her life have spiraled out of control?
Focus on these questions right now, I know there will be chapters in which authors will share how they managed to get through all of it. Since we are asking what makes our life not meaningful, then we should focus only on what makes it disappointing, depressing or not meaningful.
You will have two perspectives once you complete these two assignments. Perspective on what makes our life meaningful and what makes it otherwise. Make it as personal as possible so you can use it for your own good. In an experiment or scientific inquiry, data will undergo several tests. We will try and conduct data treatment to find answers in very simple and practical ways. I am not conducting any kind of research but it would be good to validate the data using scientific principles, provided that it also uses the English language so we can understand.
Not everyone is curious and not everyone is a thinker. You don’t have to be smart to be curious and you don’t need to think to have answers. The answers to each questions we have in life are already created. All we have to do is to find ways to find them. This is not a school exam, getting the answers from other people’s experiences is not cheating it is being wise. Do you want to be wise?
